JACOB Hopper is one of just four North Ballarat Rebels to be a top 10 draft selection.
The star Greater Western Sydney academy product joins former Fremantle player James Walker, ex-Collingwood midfielder Shane O’Bree and current Magpie Nathan Brown as the only other Rebels to achieve the impressive feat.
It came as little surprise when Hopper was nominated by Gold Coast – GWS subsquently matched the Suns' bid at pick seven – as the St Pat's product from Leeton enjoyed a terrific season with the Rebels.
AFL Victoria and Rebels talent manager Phil Partington said Hopper would have an immediate impact.
“When Jacob walks through the door, he will lift the standards at GWS,” Partington said.
“He will be a leader for the Giants and a very good player for them.”
Hopper was named as rover in the TAC Cup Team of the Year. The gun midfielder also made All-Australian selection after a stellar under 18 championships for New South Wales-ACT.
