The Greater Western Victoria Rebels today announce a change to its TAC Cup Girls coaching structure.
It is with sadness that we announce that Jeff Whittaker has made the decision to stand down as GWV Rebels TAC Cup Girls Head Coach due to work and personal reasons.
Whittaker is the inaugural Head Coach of the GWV Rebels girls program and his knowledge of Youth Girls football is unrivalled in our region.
Whittaker won’t be completely lost to the GWV Rebels though as he will remain with the program as the TAC Cup Girls Coaching and Player Mentor, a role that isn’t as onerous on time as the Head Coaching role, but which will be invaluable to offer high-level personal coaching to our TAC Cup Girls players and coaching staff.
“We thank Jeff for all of the time, hard work and effort he has put in over many years as GWV Rebels TAC CUP Girls Head coach over the past year”, commented GWV Rebels Female Talent Coordinator Krista Woodroffe.
“It will be good for Jeff to take on a new role as our Coaching and Player Mentor”, Woodroffe told Rebels TV earlier this week.
“It will give our [players] more one-on-one involvement with our coaching staff, and for the coaches as well”.
“Jeff has had some great experience over the last few years and it’s very important for us to keep him in our program”.
Taking over as GWV Rebels TAC Cup Girls Head Coach will be Rhys Cahir.
Cahir has had a long coaching career, having coached the SMW Rovers in the Mininera FNL from 2011-2013 before joining Dunnstown in the Central Highlands FL as playing assistant coach in 2014, a position he has held until now.
Cahir has also been involved in the Rebels program as an assistant coach for the Rebels Under 16 Boys Development Squad from 2013-2017, and was appointed as an assistant coach for the TAC Cup Girls team in 2018 before his elevation to the Head Coaching role.
“We’re excited to have Rhys as our Head Coach for the remaining eight rounds of the 2018 season”, Woodroffe commented.
“He’s been heavily involved with everything we’ve done from a coaching standpoint this season and our players really respond to him, so we’re confident that this will be a seamless transition”.
Cahir’s first game as TAC Cup Girls Head Coach will be this Sunday in Round 2 of the TAC Cup Girls competition as the GWV Rebels play the Geelong Falcons at Marty Busch Reserve, Sebastopol, at 1:00pm.
