The Rebels are very excited to announce Gerard Fitzgerald as our new TAC CUP Head Coach for the next 2 years.
Gerard replaces David Loader who has accepted a Development Coaches position at the North Melbourne Football Club.
As most are aware Gerard is a highly respected ambassador of the game of Australian Rules Football across the Rebels Talent Region and a highly successful Coach who brings many qualities and attributes to the role of developing Western Victoria’s finest underage footballers.
Recently, Gerard had been the Head Coach of the VFL Roosters. A position he held for the past 9 years and during that time he developed a culture which saw 3 Premierships in 2008, 2009 & 2010 and many other finals appearances throughout those years.
Gerard is no stranger to the TAC CUP Head Coaches position as he coached the Rebels successfully in 2005 and 2006 which saw him help produce many fine current AFL Players such as Nathan & Mitchell Brown, James Frawley and Shaun Grigg as well as Myles Sewell and Steven Clifton who both went onto win JJ Liston Medals in the VFL Competition.
Gerard has strong personal ties to the Rebels Talent Region of Western Victoria after growing up and still residing in Derrinallum through to coaching successfully within the Hampden Football League with the Mortlake and Camperdown Football Clubs.
The Rebels Head Coaches position attracted plenty of interest with 11 applications from all over Australia for the Part Time Position.
The Rebels wish Gerard all the best in his new role of coaching Western Victoria’s most talented young Footballers within the Rebels Program.
