The Greater Western Victoria Rebels are pleased to announce our initial Playing Squad for the 2018 TAC Cup Boys season.
The GWV Rebels administration and coaching staff has been very pleased with the quality of the work produced by the regions most talented and promising footballers over the past five months during the Rebels 2018 TAC Cup squad pre-season.
Initially over 140 players across the Ballarat, Wimmera, South West, Warrnambool and Hampden Talent Regions took up the invitation to be a part of the preseason and all players worked extremely hard 2-3 nights per week to improve their skills and fitness levels.
All players have been under the watchful eye of new Rebels Head Coach/Regional Coaching Director Marc Greig and the experienced Coaching and Development staff across the Rebels Talent Region of Western Victoria, and the new Rebels coach has been impressed with the talent throughout the region.
“It’s been great to see just how many talented footballers we have in the western region of Victoria”, Greig mentioned.
“It’s been an extremely hard task trimming our list to just 48 players, such has been the spread of talent throughout the region”.
“That being said, we’re extremely happy with our initial selected squad, with a good mix of experience and youth within”.
The squad contains 33 players new to TAC Cup football in 2018, with a mix of 26 top-age (turning 18 in 2018) and 22 bottom-age (turning 17 in 2018) players.
“We’re excited to introduce so many new players into the GWV Rebels program for the first time, and we look forward into developing the squad into not just better footballers, but more importantly better people”, Greig mentioned.
Like any squad, players that are excelling outside this squad in local league football have the opportunity to be included throughout the season, as well as the players that have already been selected that don’t meet expectations may be released back to local football.
Also the 2018 GWV Rebels have two sets of siblings within our Boys and Girls Programs- Harrison & Lauren Butler (Carisbrook FNC / Ballarat Grammar) and Josh & Ella Bibby (Warracknabeal / Ballarat Grammar).
The Greater Western Victoria Rebels start their TAC Cup season against the Bendigo Pioneers at Mars Stadium, Ballarat, on Saturday 24th March as part of a Triple Header including the Rebels TAC Cup Girls and Under 16 Development Teams.
